Founder Managing Partner
Blaise is the founder and managing partner of Analytics Ventures, a venture fund focused on big data analytics and seed-stage investments. Blaise has a passion for developing innovative solutions that empower organizations to make data-driven business decisions, and plays a very active role in driving product and go-to-market strategies. In the mid 1990s, Blaise founded WebSideStory, the Web analytics industry pioneer.

Navid is Managing Partner at Analytics Ventures, and Founder of La Costa Investment Group. Navid looks to address the need between angel investors and big venture capital funds. He has managed approximately $100 million at Fortune 500 financial services companies. Navid is also an Entrepreneur in Residence at CONNECT and advisor to several startups. Navid holds a JD/MBA from the University of San Diego and a BA from UCSD.
President of San Diego Venture Group
David Titus joined SDVG as President in April 2011. He is also Managing Director of Windward Ventures, an early-stage venture fund focused on Southern California technology companies. In addition to directing the overall development of the firm, he is responsible for a number of investments in the software field. Dave has been a director of more than 25 companies, including two public companies. He is also a member of the Executive Committee for CONNECT, and was formerly an officer of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists.
Allison Long Pettine
Early Stage Investor
Allison Long Pettine is the President of Crescent Ridge Partners, a venture fund that provides seed capital to early stage start-ups. Prior to founding Crescent Ridge Partners, Allison was Vice President at Viscogliosi Brothers, a New-York based venture capital company focused on cutting-edge orthopedic medical device technologies. She was also one of the early employees at Paradigm Spine, a startup that develops non-fusion spinal implants to treat degenerative and deformity spinal disorders. Allison holds a B.S; B.A, Management Science; Psychology from UC San Diego and an M.B.A from UCLA Anderson School of Management.
SVP Business Development at Cooley
Eric Otterson joined Cooley LLP in 2006, bringing business-oriented legal solutions to publicly traded, middle market and emerging growth companies in Southern California. He often engages connections between emerging growth companies and the fiirm’s capital provider clients. Previously, as the director of client oerations at a CRM company, he facilitated sales closure and led the implementation and relationship teams for clients such as Fiserv, Countrywide, AT&T, and British Telecom. He is an active board member of the CONNECT Foundation, a member of the Evo-Nexus Oversight Committee and a trustee at the San Diego French-American School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design from University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from The Anderson School at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Chairman San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp
Mr. Karras has over 30 years of experience in the real estate industry, including 19 years with Burnham Real Estate Services where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Karras is very involved in community and civic activities including serving as the chairman for San Diego Regional EDC whose investors include San Diego’s top corporations. Mr. Karras is active on the Executive Committee and Board for CONNECT and a member of USD’s Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate Policy Advisory Board. In addition, Mr. Karras was a Founding Member of LEAD San Diego’s Leadership Trust and has served on the Boards of San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, LEAD San Diego, San Diego Performing Arts League, Better Business Bureau and San Diego Commercial Real Estate Association.
Chairman Software San Diego
Mr. Clancy is managing member at TAO Venture Partners, a investment fund specializing in Internet, Security, Analytics and Cloud investments. He has over 30 years experience as a technology executive, financier, and entrepreneur. Mr. Clancy formed TAO in January, 2006. From January 1998 to September 2005, Mr. Clancy served as managing director of Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, leading its Internet, consumer, and software investment practices. Prior to joining Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, Mr. Clancy was a partner at TRC, Inc., a software consulting company, the chief executive officer of Expersoft, a developer of Internet Infrastructure software, and Vice President of Technology Development for Citicorp, Transaction Technology, Inc.. Mr. Clancy has financed and served on the boards of private and public technology companies including The Active Network (ACTV), Stamps.com (STMP), WineDirect, EcoATM, Paraccel, Brightcloud, and Preventsys. Mr. Clancy is Chairman: Software San Diego, board member and past president of the San Diego Venture Group, and a board member of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. Mr. Clancy earned a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Mike is a veteran serial entrepreneur with success in several startups, primarily with computers and software, and is the inventor/developer of the first contact management (CRM) software for the PC. After 7 years as founder, programmer and CEO, with hundreds of thousands of customers, two INC 500 awards, and 70 employees, the exit was rewarding. Mike mentors a select few entrepreneurs and serves as an advisor/board member with several startup businesses in Southern California. Additionally, he writes the blog “The Art and Science of Success in Business” and is author of two books: The Interactive Pocket Guide for Entrepreneurs” and “The Spirit of Adventure”. Mike has a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Saint Mary’s University (MD) in Accounting/Economics, and learned computers and software while a sales rep for IBM starting in 1964. He has also experienced Life as a race car driver, open-cockpit biplane pilot, competitive pool shooter, freestyle Frisbee player, and yogi. It seems that he can never learn enough.
Bruce Hansen has over two decades of experience building companies in the analytic software industry, with a particular focus on financial services. Hansen was co-founder/CEO at ID Analytics, leading the company from 2002 through to a $195 million exit in 2012. Prior, he was President at HNC Software Inc. (NASDAQ: HNCS), a pioneering $1 billion+ global provider of analytic software solutions. Hansen was named Ernst & Young's 2007 San Diego Entrepreneur of the Year and one of four 2007 National Finalists. In 1998, he was named the Los Alamos National Laboratory's Entrepreneur of the Year for his work with CASA. Currently, Hansen serves on several boards including Performant Financial (NASDAQ: PFMT), MITEK (NASDAQ: MITK), Zyme Solutions, BrightScope, Everyone Counts, and the San Diego Venture Group. Hansen earned a B.A. from Harvard and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Jack is a Founder and Managing Director of a Trans-Pacific cross-border advisory firm, Pantek Partners, which provides strategic and tactical advisory services to US and European based technology companies specific to their strategic market-entry, M&A and capital-raising activities in Greater China and the surrounding regions in Asia-Pacific. Jack has over 15 years experience in various roles including line operating roles with technology companies, investment banking, private equity and venture capital. Jack served time as an investment banker with UBS in New York and as a venture capitalist with Mission Ventures in San Diego. Jack graduated with honors from Colgate University and is conversant in Russian, Portuguese and beginning Mandarin Chinese. Technology Adviser and Investor
Taner Halicioglu is a Bay Area native who graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 1996 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science. After graduation, he returned to Silicon Valley where he participated as a very early (first 20) employee at multiple high-tech start-ups in the mid-to-late 90's and through the 2000's including: GlobalCenter, Loudcloud, eBay (post-IPO), and Facebook. In 2009 he moved to Southern California to work at the game company, Blizzard Entertainment, and then in 2012 moved to San Diego to teach Computer Science at his Alma Mater. The majority of his technical contributions were as a senior-or-higher technical operations position, where he helped ensure systems were scaled, monitored, and troubleshot/debugged properly.
Serial Entrepreneur and Investor
In 2002 Asaf co-founded iMatrix, an Internet Marketing company catering to the health and wellness verticals. Asaf exemplified hands on management in all aspects of the company to become one of the nation's leading small business internet marketing companies. Asaf is passionate about developing great software, building successful sales teams, and delivering customer service as a competitive advantage. At iMatrix, Asaf built the company from start up to over 10,000 active clients, 140 employees, and over $1.4 million in MRR. Asaf’s hobbies include spending time with his wife and four kids, sports cars, and the occasional skydive. Asaf serves as an advisor/board member with several startup businesses in San Diego and earned his bachelor’s degree in communication from UCSD.
Pete has been in the startup world for the past twenty years. Four of his six prior startups were acquired, including sales to Cisco Systems, NORTEL, and Nokia. Pete recently started his seventh company. Pete’s latest passion is location based mobile apps. His last company was Trapster, the mobile phone app that alerts you to police speed traps, accidents, and other roadway wallet hazards. He scaled Trapster to more than 10,000,000 users, with a thriving active user base world-wide. Trapster spread virally through word of mouth and the press, because it was a simple and free solution to a real problem millions of people have. Trapster was featured 100’s of times on live TV, and on the front page of the WSJ, NY Times, USA Today, MotorTrend, and 100’s of other publications. All of this was done on a shoestring budget, with zero spent on advertising. Trapster was acquired by Nokia in 2010. Previously Pete focused on Internet infrastructure. He helped create Cisco’s PIX Firewall with $7 billion in sales, and the first server load balancer, now a cornerstone technology in most commercial Web sites. Pete is an inventor of record on 15 US patents. He studied Math/CS/Physics at San Diego State University.
Iryna Dzieciuch M.S.
Life Science Data Guru
Iryna Dzieciuch received her B.S. in Computer Science and M.S. in Artificial Intelligence. Iryna is able to analyze complex, disparate, and multivariate data sets to discern patterns and trends, and to develop neural network, genetic algorithm or artificial intelligence approaches to automatically interpret personalized biomarker fingerprints. Iryna is also responsible for interaction with the scientific, investment and innovative communities for Anametrix to translate company’s R&D efforts into actionable results.
Gaming and Mobile App Guru
Lee Jacobson is an entertainment executive with expertise in the video game industry working with Virgin Entertainment, Viacom, Midway Games and most recently Atari, where he served as Senior VP of Publishing and Licensing. Lee is currently the CEO of Apmetrix a mobile analytics company which offers next generation state of the art business intelligence and analytics for mobile apps and video games, enabling companies to visualize and deeply understand player behaviors as well as automate and target their marketing efforts to maximize revenues.
Mark who is CTO of Anametrix and Apmetrix brings three decades of pioneering computer experience to Analytics Ventures from creating multiple analytics-driven game companies and franchises to previously serving as CEO of a number of game development companies and most recently Vice President of Engineering for The Walt Disney Company/Playdom where he developed cutting edge new strategies and technologies for digital analytics and social gaming which has enabled the rapid creation, expansion, and distribution of multiple games on several social networks. Mark has several accolades to his credit and has earned the prestigious BAFTA award for strategy game of the year in 2006 for his work on “Rise and Fall” and has patents in the area of virtually communicating with gamers in real world experiences.

Olivier Silvestre is currently Senior Vice President of Client Success at Anametrix. He started his digital marketing career in 1999 at web analytics pioneer WebSideStory, where he spent nine years helping the company build value for its Fortune 500 customers. Olivier co-founded Tealium in 2008, a leading universal tag management company. In 2011 he joined Certona Corp. to lead the revenue optimization team. As a wine aficionado, Olivier started VinoMatch, a worldwide search engine project to help people find wine. Olivier holds a bachelor’s in electronics and an MBA from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers, one of the leading business schools in France.

Philippe is currently employed at Microsoft and manages Windows Phone marketing for AT&T. Philippe has held a variety of positions at Microsoft including product management and business development. Previously, Philippe worked at Bain & Company where he advised clients on corporate strategy, pricing strategy, sales force effectiveness, customer satisfaction and performance improvement. Philippe has expertise in go-to-market strategy, product management, business strategy, strategic partnerships and competitive analysis. Philippe holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.

Rick Enrico is a serial entrepreneur and CEO of SlideGenius, Inc., a San Diego based marketing & software agency. Rick currently oversees an experienced team of talented designers, software developers and marketing professionals that specialize in creating custom corporate presentations and cloud publishing applications. Prior to SlideGenius, Rick was CEO of an online automotive re-marketing firm which brokered over $70M in automobiles annually. Early in his career, Rick founded two software companies both of which focused on marketing analytics and automation and was co-founder of the online division of a 200-store apparel retailer, which was acquired in 2006.

David has over 15 years of experience in online, mobile, and emerging media companies. He currently is the Co-GM and VP of sales and business development for the OpenCandy ad network at SweetLabs. Previously he has served in executive sales and business development roles in digital music for MP3.com, mobile and web Q&A with ChaCha.com, and online video and DRM companies for Naspers and NaviSite. He started his career in marketing with the major movie studios and was one of the first producers of early video webcasts in the music industry. David is an angel investor in mobile, online, digital rights management, and enterprise companies and is a huge supporter of the San Diego start up community.

Gilles is both the V.P. of Operations at Anametrix and CFO of Apmetrix, 2 digital analytics innovators. An expert in Operations with a 15-year track record in successfully operating Start-Ups from inception to Nasdaq! Gilles is a top notch operations master that functions well in business environments that are running at light speed. His ability to manage and coordinate human and other assets made for extremely successful operations at WebSideStory and all of his other past or present professional ventures. He holds an MBA from Université Paris IX Dauphine, one of the leading European universities for finance and business management.
Joseph Barr, Ph.D.
Statistical Modeling Guru
Dr. Joseph Barr has been a statistical and data analytics professional for over 20 years. Has a track record of building teams and delivering results in various verticals. He has held various academic and corporate leadership (C-level) positions, most recently the chief scientist of ID Analytics. His passion is transforming raw data into insight: developing methods & algorithms for extracting hidden gems and to translating those into valuable corporate assets. He is a machine-learning researcher and practitioner and teacher with expertise in regression, time series, neural networks, decision trees, boosting, support-vector machines and heuristics. Dr. Barr is an adjunct professor of statistics and computer science at San Diego State University responsible for developing the machine-learning program. He is also a visiting scholar at University of California Irvine. He is a frequent conference speaker and has published several papers in the fields of machine learning and graph theory. Dr. Barr holds doctorate degree in mathematics from the university of New Mexico.
Homa Karimabadi, Ph.D.
Dr. Karimabadi is the co-founder and CTO of CureMetrix.com. He has over 20 years of experience in supercomputing techniques and information technology, as well as business management and strategy. He has founded/co-founded a number of startups where he led the development of intelligent algorithms for petascale computing, and knowledge discovery from Big Data with applications to healthcare analytics. Other ventures include medical diagnostic tools and patient-physician interactive portals. Dr. Karimabadi has given numerous invited talks in the U.S. and abroad on a variety of topics including the future of computing. He has also served as the leader of the simulation group at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UCSD. His codes were selected for benchmarking of Intel’s new chip and he has assisted government agencies with the design and deployment of their next generation supercomputers. As a research scientist, he is recognized for key discoveries in several fields. He has published over 100 articles in scientific journals on a wide range of topics including numerical algorithms, machine learning, cosmology, space plasmas, among others. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Astronomy and PhD in Plasma Astrophysics.
Tamara Sipes, Ph.D.
Data Analytics Guru
Dr. Sipes is the co-founder and Chief Information Officer of CureMetrix.com. She has over 15 years of experience in solving complex problems with highly effective predictive models. As the VP of Data Analytics and Intelligent Systems at SciberQuest, Inc. she devised specialized techniques for knowledge extraction from large multi-source data. These techniques have proven effective in analysis of real world data which are often noisy are collected at unequal intervals. Her work on multi-variate time series algorithms excels in uncovering hidden patterns, trends, and causal relationships in real time streaming data. She has successfully applied this data mining technology to a variety of industries, including medical, biotechnology, space physics, and smart energy grid. Dr. Sipes’ research has led to several patent applications. Dr. Sipes earned her B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science, and her Ph.D. in Computer Science with emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
John is actively involved with BIOCOM, CONNECT and the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine. John is an advocate and supporter of the San Diego Bi-National Region and the San Diego Start-up eco-system. John Hundley provides advisory and consulting services for owners and occupiers in the Tech and Life Science sectors with lab, R&D, manufacturing, distribution and office requirements. John helps his client’s design real estate solutions that align with the company’s culture, vision and goals. John has over a decade of commercial real estate industry experience as an owner/developer and broker. Prior to CBRE he worked in private equity acquiring portfolios of distressed assets. John was recently appointed to lead the Occupier Life Sciences Practice for CBRE in San Diego. In this role, he is responsible for generating and executing business on behalf of occupiers within the life sciences industry. Mr. Hundley completed a Bachelor of Arts at Point Loma Nazarene University, a Master of Christian Studies from Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia and a Master of Science in Real Estate from University of San Diego at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate.
Evan is an entrepreneurial product strategist who brings a diverse background of business development, marketing, sales, and development methodologies to organizations. Specializing in both B2B/B2C across new innovative products/markets or restructuring of existing solutions. At ACTIVE Network he manages Product Development and Strategy for their Endurance segment which hosts over 23,0000 events each year in countries around the world resulting in over $60M in direct revenue. He oversaw and collaborated with 8 product teams, 40+ developers, and multiple functional groups across the organization. His unique roles includes both B2B solutions (Event and Race Management) and Consumer solutions (Registration, Fundraising, and Participant Self Service). At Active Network his innovation and design in self service systems resulted in over $20 million in growth on their flagship product over last 2 years. Prior to Active Network, Evan operated in multiple divisions at Intel Corporation creating a product segment which ultimately became Intel Atom line in addition to running Fortune 500 relationships across several Midwest states. Evan holds a bachelor's in Entrepreneurship and Finance from The University of Arizona. He is a firm believer in "the ideal product isn't when you can't add anything else but there is nothing else you can remove" - Focus.
Predictive Analytics Guru
Dr. Michael Zeller is the CEO of Zementis, a software company focused on the operational deployment of predictive analytics and recognized by CIO Review as one of the "Top 20 most promising Big Data companies in 2013”. Michael currently also serves on the Board of Directors of Software San Diego and as Secretary/Treasurer on the Executive Committee of ACM SIGKDD, which is the premier international organization for data mining researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government. Previously, Michael served as CEO of OTW Software, a company focused on implementing structured software engineering processes and delivering object-oriented analysis and design services. Prior to his engagement at OTW, he held the position of Director of Engineering for an aerospace firm, managing the implementation of IT solutions for major aerospace corporations. Michael also received a visiting scholarship from the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was the recipient of a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Computer Science Department at the University of Southern California..
Consumer Sales and Marketing Guru
Charles Speidel is Vice President of the Research and Innovation Center at Sony Electronics, Inc headquarters in San Diego, California. In this role Charles and his team guide Sony in making more informed decisions in all areas of the business in addition to developing innovative solutions for Sales & Marketing activities and product development. Charles brings a wealth of experience to Sony electronics in the US with more than 18 years in various sales and marketing functions within Sony. He has in managed multimillion dollars businesses for Sony across the globe and has worked at Sony’s European headquarters, Sony France, and Sony Nordic, covering Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Most recently as Sony Nordic’s commercial head, Charles was responsible for the sales and marketing of the consumer product group. He played a significant leadership role in the transformation of the Nordic business, from a country-focused organization to an account and channel-focused organization, delivering bottom line results and growing consumer market share to 20 percent. Charles graduated from Boston University’s School of Management and resides in San Diego, California with his wife and two children. Ram spent the first part of his career at GE, going through their management and leadership programs and took on roles with increasing responsibility. He spent the last 10 years in Healthcare, and was the senior executive leading GE’s global radiology IT business. He spent the last 2 years as a senior executive at the Active Network where he helped to grow his division and ultimately helped sell the company. Ram is passionate about building and leading teams to tackle challenging market problems. At Active Network, Ram helped establish and scale a number of a business units and get them on track for healthy, profitable growth. At GE healthcare, Ram helped turn around a number of business helping them get profitable, improve customer satisfaction, and launch new products to the market. He has led global companies (+$600MM) and smaller ones (<$5MM) and loves the challenges both present. Ram serves as an advisor with several startup businesses in San Diego, has an MBA from Chicago’s booth school of business and an undergraduate engineering degree from UVA. He has served on the executive committee at SDSI and is committed to seeing businesses grow and thrive in San Diego.

Bob has been an angel investor and active in helping companies develop strategic alliances.
